Dauro comes from the Empordà, in the province of Girona. The estate lies between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, the sea and the mountain, binomials which have marked the Empordanes character since time immemorial. There are different types of soil, although it predominantly consists of a layer containing a variable depth of loam texture earth and gravel, sitting on a loose lime profile, which allows an excellent radial development. The tramontana winds from the north, intense and continuous, invites the olive trees to pay reverence to the south when it blows. A wind that sweeps the clouds and cleans the sky, leaving incredible transparency and light in its wake. Light and ventilation, these are two great physiological demands of the olive tree. Until 1956 all the land here was planted with olive groves, but one ill-fated February morning frost came and decimated the plantations. During the latter half of the twentieth century, cereals and alfalfa reigned over these lands until Dauro project brought back the tree that had formed part of the landscape since the time of the Roman invasion.
